With Whitefish as a basecamp, a trip to Glacier National Park is a must! Glacier National Park is only 25 miles from downtown Whitefish. The park has over 1 million acres of wilderness, all located in Montana's Rocky Mountains. While the park is known for amazing glaciers, there are beautiful alpine meadows, pristine lakes and dramatic glacier-carved valleys. Another highlight is the Going-to-the-Sun Road, completed in 1932, that crosses the park, east to west and is generally open from mid-June to mid-October.

If going by foot is more your style, there are over 700 miles of hiking trails. A good place to start is the hike to Hidden Lake. Though a moderate 5.4 mile roundtrip hike, visitors will be rewarded with views of Clements, Bearhat and Reynolds mountains from the lake. Other activities in and around the park include backpacking, cycling and camping. Also, Glacier National Park is home to an incredible array of wildlife. Grizzly bear, moose, mountain goats, wolverines and Canadian lynxes all inhabit the area.
